Moving to start a new life...
« on: June 12, 2003, 08:14:36 PM »
;)

OK...this is my situation...

I am 29, live in Brooklyn and want to move to the UK.  Not married to anyone in London, not dating anyone in London, just ready to move and start a new life elsewhere.  I want a simple job as a secretary or PA (preferable in the entertainment field) I have been in this field for the past seven years or so.  How bad does the Visa thing look?  Help a sista out pleeessseee!!!!!!!!

Hi again, Oshun.  (I answered your post in the Intro section but see you've already found your way here!)

In the post above this one, you'll find lots of links that can help you out.

Basically, if you don't have relations ties here, and don't plan on studying here, you must have skills that are in short supply from British people.  It is a very difficult thing to do to get a job here unless you are a nurse or teacher or some other specialised job.

Check out the links in the first thread in this section though and you'll find out all about that.

Best of luck!
:)

Hello Wish,

Good luck in obtaining a Visa.  I am married to an English man and about 10 Points shy from the Highly Skilled Migrant Programme.  Sorry but the field you are in is not part of the Highly Skilled Migrant Programme.  I would call the Home Office and see if they can shed some light on your situation.  If you talk to the Home Office note the time, and person you talk too.  Because the Home Office tends to not be the most truthful when it comes to handing out information.

You can obtain information from this site:

I hope you are able to obtain your visa.  If you can find a company that will sponser you that might be your best choice.

Hello Wish,

Thanks.   ;D

As a side I think I have become addicted to the daisy icon.  [smiley=daisy.gif]  I love it!   [smiley=daisy.gif]  Maybe I need to go to the Betty Ford clinic and over come my addition to the daisy.   [smiley=daisy.gif]

Good luck with it all.  Most of the research I've done regarding jobs in UK have said that a UK sponsor is the best bet, otherwise it's very difficult to find work other than bar maid or waitress.  The previous advice seemed to be on the money.

I've been looking for work in Scotland for about six months and can't find a thing.  Frustrated!  I guess I'm in the same boat you're in -- in more ways than one.  I'm in San Antonio, work closely in the entertainment field, and want to move to start a new adventure for myself.  Why not if you can do it, right?

Again, good luck.
