astonishing. When just 18 months ago you could get an ILR for free.

I knew this was going to happen but the "official word" was only released today and I didn't want to get anybody upset if it didn't go through.

But that's why my appointment for my Indefinite Leave application is Friday.  £250 is bad enough.  >:(

Aw gee - thanks!

Nope - we got married March 2003 - and on 1st April 2003 they changed the FLR time frame from 1 year to 2 years.  Yep - we applied for FLR on 17th April.  Had we known... ::)  One of those "stealth" changes.  >:(

I hope and pray that the Home Office uses the extra money from HSMP applicants to actually process HSMP applications.  They currently have a nine month backlog.

Wow-thanks for posting this.

After calling for several days, I finally got through to the Birmingham PIO on Tuesday afternoon to make an appointment for my marriage visa.  I wasn't able to get the appointment on any of the dates I wanted, so I took the earliest slot available - Thursday 31 March 9am.

Whew....It's nice to catch a break for a change......

I can't believe what a huge increase it is -- I thought they'd add £50 here and there, but an extra £180 for an ILR application by post?!  That's an increase of 216%!   :P  I started saving for the original £155 a few months ago so it wouldn't feel like a big chunk of change when I apply (September)...guess I'll have to start saving 216% more now!   ::)

Just to clarify, does this apply to both spouse and fiance visas, or just spouse visas?

This is not a Visa fee.  This is a Leave to Remain fee.  It applies to Limited Leave to Remain and Indefinite Leave to Remain.

Fiance(e) & Spouse Visas are obtained at a Consulate in your home country prior to entering the UK.  As far as I know, the fees for those stays the same.

Thank you.  I should have clarified by saying that I would obtain a fiance/e visa in the US, then apply for leave to remain in Britain once I was married.
