Applying for ILR question
« on: October 04, 2005, 12:25:33 PM »
Getting my application ready for ILR and will be listing husbands  net salary as 21,000 pounds per year. UK spouse receives child benefit for our two children (both UK citizens). I do not work because of having small children.
My US sister has offered to support us with a letter and proof of income, but currently doesn't support us on a regular basis. Should I say no to the question about friends or relaltives support, and just have a letter and proof from her on hand, or should I write yes as in (She can support us up to X amount).
Thanks for any help you can offer-

I would say no and supply the supporting letter and documents.

Thanks
Does this seem like a low amount which should need extra support?

It's difficult to say without knowing detail of outgoings, ie rent payment, and where you are living.  However, it never hurts to have extra support, and as this may be considered borderline i think it would be very helpful.

Our budget is as follows:

600 rent
 88 council tax
120 food
40 petrol
35 gas
35 water
35 electric
25 telephone
50 insurance and car tax
75 entertainment
250 misc
150 savings

We own our own car, but often walk or use public transport. Don't use a mobile except as pay as you go.  We live in York. What do you think?

Another point might be that I could go back to work as soon as the children are a bit older. I really want to be with them right now.

Sorry! All these posts are from me- what about my parents also offering their support in the application- or is it overkill?
They are also in the US

Hi Grace

When we were working out finances for our spousal visa i used the following principle

If you are 2 adults and 2 children under 16 and were not working the government says that the minimum you would require to live on is

Personal allowance (couple rate) £87.30

Child allowances (for the oldest) £42.27

(For the youngest) £42.27

Premiums (family) £15.95

This is your weekly applicable amount £187.79

This is how much they would pay you in benefits (take into account that you would also have your rent and council tax paid for)
So it would seem that even without help from your family that you have more money than the government would give to a British family of the same size if they were not working.

Just as a side note we actually had less than the amount set out by the government and still got our visa.
It's just a guideline but i hope this helps a little.
Stay safe

Hi

Your outgoings (not including the amount put aside for savings) amount to a little more than £15k per year.  Your salary is only a little more than that after tax, so i would say that support letters from elsewhere would definitely be a good idea.  If these are from both sets of parents, all the better, but do make sure that they include proff of their income with the letters.

Good luck.

Victoria I listed the salary as "after tax" already, did you think I was referring to gross income as 21,000?
My sister is supplying a letter and proof of income/ bank statements- she could offer us support in the amount of $500 per month if needed.

Sorry - missed that.

You shoudl be okay, but having your sister write a letter of support will certainly do no harm.
