9-5
« on: October 24, 2003, 04:51:13 PM »
So I'm a bit bored today and decided that we should have an official song for this board! Take it away Dolly:

Tumble outta bed
And stumble to the kitchen
Pour myself a cup of ambition
Yawnin', stretchin', try to come to life
Jump in the shower
And the blood starts pumpin'
Out on the streets
The traffic starts jumpin'
And folks like me on the job from 9 to 5
Chorus:

Workin' 9 to 5
What a way to make a livin'
Barely gettin' by
It's all takin'
And no givin'
They just use your mind
And they never give you credit
It's enough to drive you
Crazy if you let it

9 to 5, for service and devotion
You would think that I
Would deserve a fair promotion
Want to move ahead
But the boss won't seem to let me in
I swear sometimes that man is out to get me
Mmmmm...

They let your dream
Just a' watch 'em shatter
You're just a step
On the boss man's a' ladder
But you got dream he'll never take away

On the same boat
With a lot of your friends
Waitin' for the day
Your ship'll come in
And the tide's gonna turn
An' it's all gonna roll you away

2nd Chorus:

Workin' 9 to 5
What a way to make a livin'
Barely gettin' by
It's all takin'
And no givin'
They just use your mind
And you never get the credit
It's enough to drive you
Crazy if you let it

9 to 5, yeah, they got you where they want you
There's a better life
And you think that I would daunt you
It's a rich man's game
No matter what they call it
And you spend your life
Puttin' money in his wallet

3rd Chorus:

Workin' 9 to 5
What a way to make a livin'
Barely gettin' by
It's all takin'
And no givin'
They just use you mind
And they never give you credit
It's enough to drive you
Crazy if you let it

Fade:

9 to 5, yeah, they got you where they want you
There's a better life
And you dream that I would daunt you
It's a rich man's game
No matter what they call it
And you spend your life
Puttin' money in his wallet

How about 8.45 to 5?  Doesn't quite trip off the tongue as easily, does it?!   ;)

God I wish 9 to 5 was a reality now a days.... :-)
Still love that song and the movie... ;D

I actually DO work 9 - 5!  Course, I only get a 1/2 hour lunch break, but I'd rather have that than work the extra half hour.

I work 9-5 and still get an hour for lunch.  That sucks you don't.  I would think NTL would be nicer to their people....hmm

I work 8-5 and get an hour for lunch but usually work through it. There's no point in trying to take a lunch break here at the office because someone is always needing something. I get the "Oh were you eating lunch? I'm sorry. I wouldn't bother you BUT...stuff. ::) So I may as well just stay at my desk to eat and work at the same time. (which is what I do) Sometimes I do leave for lunch..maybe twice a month..just to get the hell out of the office. But I can't afford to do that all the time. I work 30 miles from home so going home for lunch isn't an option.

Calgon take me away. :P (If you don't understand this then it means you're most likely too young to remember the Calgon commercials. Oh god which means I'm...*gasp*...OLD. :o )

Um, then I'm old too...because I tend to say this around the house (more often now that I'm working...) and I'm the only person who knows what I'm talking about!  The kids are too young and the husband is too English!!!   ;D

We only get 1/2 hour lunch, but we have two paid 15 mins break each day... so it's not as terrible as it sounds!

I work 8.45-5.00 and get an hour for lunch - but I usually work through it because my American-trained mentality doesn't feel I've worked a full day unless I've worked at least 8 hours!   ;)

Collington that is my situation too here at work.  But I combine those 2 15 min breaks into the other 1/2 hour of my lunch hour.  Can you do that too?  Then again you might need those 15 minute breaks.

I think I've got a normal schedule in England. I work 9-5:30 with an hour break. Except on Mondays where we have the silly 8am meeting. And then there are my ciggie breaks which technically I'm not supposed to have, but they know better than to keep me in when I need nicotine.  ;)
