spousal visa query: how much savings do i need?
« on: March 21, 2006, 06:30:48 PM »
because of outrageous medical expenses last year, i'm looking at just about breaking even by the time we can schedule our spousal visa in-person application in Chicago later this spring. this means i'll have nothing left in savings except for any money we receive as wedding gifts.

DF has several Ks in savings in his UK account, but not me.

should i be scared?

Is his income enough to support you both?  This is what they will be looking at.

Victoria

for several months, it will be. he works loads of overtime, so he actually makes more than what the letter from his employer states as his hourly wage.

in my folder of documentation, i've got my CV, letters of reference from my current employers, and printouts that show me as registered with sites that send out job alerts to people in my field for positions in the UK.

i fully intend to hotfoot it to temp agencies upon arrival in may to seek employment ASAP.

I had the opposite problem -- I had the $$$ and DH (DF at the time) had only a few quid in his bank account.  They didn't care at the Consulate who had the money, as long as it was there, so we were fine.   :)

Now I can post from btdt at least from fiancee pov...I have no savings, df has some, but he also has a good stable job so could easily prove he could support us until I can work.

They approved me, so from what you have told us I dont see it being a problem :)

Does anyone know what the financial amount should be?  I would be able to support my other half once he gets here, but it would be tight until he got a job.

I didn't have any savings and neither did my husband.  We didn't even have jobs.  His mother was sufficient to co-sponsor us.

That gives me hope!  I have almost completed my half of the immigration info, and have about 1 and a half years worth of bank statements in there, plus I also have savings squirreled away.

I am visiting an immigration advisory service on Tuesday to get my file checked over, make sure I have everything, before I ship it out!

i don't think i will ever have enough $$$ for the British embassy to allow me into England, even though we both (DF and me) have regular income, doesn't seem enough, as no thousands are coming in - sooooooo depressed !!!   :\\\'(

I am also curious about how much they expect someone to have in the bank when applying for a spousal visa, I thought it was a big issue while applying for a fiancee visa, but not such a big issue when applying as a spouse, I have a letter from an employer with a job offer that is waiting for me as soon as I have the proper work clearence.I dont expect that I will have loads of savings to show proof of when I file my spousal application.

DF is on disability as he was born with spina bifida, so he has benefits from UK.  I am not currently working but am available and able, but have ss and pension monthly (divorce settlement).  His parents have sent statements and income info for the embassy.  The embassy called and wanted more income info.  I got it, it's going out today back to the embassy.  I think I am just over scared, over nervous and over stressed!  :P
