So - no takers on my guava paste, then?   ;)

I've seen Romano or peccorino in supermarkets.  I wish they would stock provolone.  We've only been able to find it in a little Italian deli in London.

As we are on American food if anyone comes across Quaker Grits (no laughing) please let me know. For those who do not know what Grits are - well let's just say their a southern tradition - like the really SWEET iced tea we drink. [smiley=daisy.gif] Another thing I bring back from US is Crystal Light - drink mix- is that anywhere around here?

As for whoever wanted Cool Whip - I have on occassion subbed Dream Whip (added a bit of extra sugar & you need to eat it sooner than later) into some recipes & it was okay.

WHICH supermarkets??  No  luck at Tesco or  Coop..  am I looking in the wrong places??

also NOT found those cheeses  at those  supermarkets  either.. I ahve  heard that there  is an Italian  community near Bedford  but have  not been around there  to  see for myself..  Just came  back from the states  with grated  cheese  in tow  but was wondering for when I run out..

I agree about the Provolone..  YUM!!

Hi Cait,

Try Waitrose for the provolone,  the one in Gosport has a cheese counter and they have it. .. It's quite expensive I think I paid £8.00 for 1lb.  Also I just found this site today www.savoria.co.uk ...

Hopefully you can find it there.

D'oh!  I just remembered.  I bought some provolone in Sainsburys not too long ago.

Hi Cait,

I remember because I had started a post regarding provolone cheese. Unfortunately my Sainsbury's doesn't carry it but our Waitrose does...So at least we know there are places we can find it.

Would you like me to send you some if I see it? I'm hitting the grocery store tomorrow. I'm in Florida. Let me know!

I was so excited to buy Bisquick & cornmeal at Sainsburys this last weekend!  Well - except that it's a tiny box of Bisquick, but still - American style pancakes & drop biscuits, etc...mmmmmm!  The other bummer was the 'cornmeal' was actually packaged (small on that too) as 'Gourmet Polenta' & sold for 99p each -- the ingredients in 'Gourmet Polenta'......?  ::)  Ground Maize = Cornmeal!!!  Hee hee...that's traditionally po' folks food back home.
