interesting!  Apparently for librarians the East Midlands is where it's at...even higher salary than London!
Now a triple citizen!

The Office of National Statistics publishes an Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings which provides information on weekly wages by region, as well as other detailed information about employment.

(That's where the information on the website in the OP comes from.)

Wow, who knew a librarian's job could pay that much...
The chances are there's a reason we've been left here, but I'm not disappointed.  - Idlewild

Wow, who knew a librarian's job could pay that much...

It's surely for those positions that require a master's degree in Library and Information Science ... in which case 30,000 pounds is a good salary, but not amazingly good. Someone with the actual title "librarian" is an information specialist in charge of organizing information and databases, and usually isn't the one who checks out the books for patrons or reshelves titles (unless, perhaps, it's a small library or they are understaffed at the moment). The person who has the title of librarian, as opposed to being someone who works in a library, is like an upper-level position, ya know?

I know that doesn't have much to do with salaries in general, but I thought I'd just mention it (don't move to the East Midlands hoping to earn 30,000 for stamping return dates in books!) :)

Shamonica -
You should start a new thread rather than replying to an old one.

You may also want to have a look at this site http://www.move-to-england.com/average-income.html [nofollow] for more information about average income by region, age, work field etc. Pay attention people: Median is more accurate than average when talking about salaries or income, because it is not influenced by the extremes!

Hi.

For those who have entered this thread and are looking for UK IT salaries...or project mgmt, finance w/ an IT slant, etc.

www.itjobswatch.co.uk  has a very good breakdown.

The only inaccuracy is the number of available positions.  They will say x amount of jobs with that title in the UK have been posted in the last y months.  However, since multiple employment recruiters will simultaneously post the same job, I think the numbers are an over representation of the actual availability.

The salaries seem fairly accurate from my experience as well as the skills required for the positions.

You can find the info under "Sales Person" cause I seriously don't think Marketing/Product Manager exists in this country.  I've applied for countless jobs with Marketing Manager or Product Manager and been turned down because its a sales job.

I've applied for countless jobs with Marketing Manager or Product Manager and been turned down because its a sales job.

When I worked in a call center in Bristol selling electrical appliance spare parts (cooker elements, fridge door seals, hood bulbs, freezer thermostats, pumps, etc etc) I was called a "Sales Executive" (capital S, capital E). We got a bonus every time we got someone to add a pack of vacuum cleaner bags to their order (we asked what brand their vac was and then said there was a special offer "just this week" on those bags). If they got all snobby and said "Actually we don't need any bags - we have a Dyson" we got them by saying "Are your Dyson's filters medical grade?" - they'd say "What do you mean?" and we'd spin them a yarn about special high-grade filters so good they cleaned the air for asthma sufferers. They would always order a pack or two (special offer this week only on two or more packs!) I think they did this so they could not only snob out people with lowly bag vacuums but also other Dyson owners. Incidentally Dysons are lousy at picking up dog hairs, I have been told.

Totally off topic, but they're BRILLIANT at picking up cat hairs. I can't speak for dog hairs.

(And I'm not a snob. Well, only sometimes.)  ;)
