US company wont pay to repatriate
« on: November 17, 2002, 03:24:37 PM »
Hi, I was wondering if anyone would have any advice regarding how to handle the situation where a US company located me here in the UK, laid me off and refuses to repatriate me.  I am still on the US payroll and had no written agreement stating that repatriation would not be paid for. Having been here for only 4 months I am unsure about pursuing this legally in the UK or in the US?

ugh!  what a load of (for lack of a better term) wankers!  soz to hear about this....unfortunately I don't have any advice to offer, but you've most certainly got my sympathy.  Hopefully one of our legal-eagles will be able to post something more helpful.

I think you should seek legal advice.  I think the UK gov't would say the company has an obligation to repatriate you as that is a reasonable expectation.  Not only that, I would imagine the UK gov't expects them to repatriate you as you no longer have a legal basis to remain in the UK.
