Best Way to allow for UK tax rebate (helen)
« on: April 10, 2004, 12:38:06 AM »
Hi,
I'm still trying to get my 2003 return finalized.  As I've mentioned in previous posts, I moved to Florida last June, having worked in the UK until the end of may, and in the US since August.

My problem is that I'm expecting most of the tax I paid in the UK for April and May to be given back once I file.  However, I'm not sure how to deal with this on the US form for 2003.  I'd like to exclude it from my US tax credit, but it would be using a estimated figure.

In essence I'd like to stop having to show UK earnings this year and not mess around with them next year.

Any suggestions.

Hi Bill

You should reduce your foreign taxes paid (when calculating foreign tax credit) by the amount you expect to receive as overpayment from UK Inland revenue on your 2003 US return.
