ah, y'all are sweethearts!!

Let's see:  I can now drive legally again.  It looks like I've been approved for a bank credit card, and I'm happy with my checking account.  My Council employment's going well.  I'm getting my first self-assessment in.  I like my GP and have all the stuff I need for the NHS, registration with self-employment, National Insurance Number, etc. I'm registered with the GSCC and BACP (social work and counselling qualifications).  I even have my library card.

Basically, I've passed all the milestones I needed but this year's Life in the UK test and FLR and next year's citizenship.

Oh, all but one milestone, DH and I are trying for our first baby.  That counts as an important one too I guess.  ;D ;)

I can't believe I finally passed the traumatic experience known as the UK driving test!! 4th time too...whoa...

SO if you haven't passed, don't give up hope, it is possible if you get a decent examiner!

The first time the guy failed me for driving on the wrong side of the road coming out of the test centre (complete accident, too many parked cars on the left. I know to drive on the left lol). The second time the examiner 'Neil' failed me for stalling twice on the hillstart and the third time, I had a creepy examiner. He told me psycopaths used to live in my house, witches were burnt on my street, and I would probably be knifed soon by people in the area. I didn't really reply, he failed me for 'jittering' the car and nearly stalling it (though I didn't!) and couldn't explain half his marks on the paper, which was annoying. I should have appealed it, but didn't think it would go anywhere.

Today it was pouring rain and I had an older man named Charles who hardly spoke the whole time. I thought I had failed because on the turn-in-the-road I took my foot off the clutch whilst the car was engaged in gear which was stupid, but I passed with 6 minors and my car insurance is £800 a year cheaper!!! I couldn't believe it, but I found a company that will take foreign no-claims (ecar I think?) so life is good!

Anyways had to share the story, maybe it'll give hope to someone their 4th time 'round.

Just so long as he didn't mention the failed driving test candidates who were mown down by crazed examiners!   [smiley=mad.gif]

yay!!!! I have my test on the 8th of april. Although no one I know even has a manual, I opted to test in one, so after my first lesson yesterday, she just basically said all I have to do is unlearn some bad habits. ( my first car was a 5 speed, and I havent driven one since 2003 or so, I learned on that car and had it for 6 or so years).
Just little stuff like too much clutch, not feeding the steering wheel, that sort of thing, but she was really nice. I have to say I was a bit hesitant to do a manual test as its more things to mess up, but I think it will be fine. Also the rain tipping it down didnt help, but it comes with the territory huh?

ladylovely I had pretty much the same experience- except when I learned in the US I was taught NOT to feed the wheel- so interesting trying to unlearn that habit that I've had for 12+ years!
