I almost can't believe I'm posting this, but I just passed my driving test!!!

Just some background--I had never driven a manual before moving here, and we also live in London with no car, so I never had much opportunity to drive. I would only get a chance to practice driving on the odd weekend trip to visit the in-laws, and never got a chance to take lessons or build on anything I  learned. We are temporarily staying with my in-laws while we look for a new flat, so I decided to take the opportunity to try to get some intensive driving lessons in, and take the test. Over the past 2 weeks I've had 10 hours of driving lessons, and have been practicing every day. And I'm happy to say it all paid off!

I got my ILR last week, and even that doesn't compare to how relieved I feel.  :)

Go Kate!  Fantastic.  I'm in the same situation regarding not having my own car to practice on, so now I'm thinking I need to get myself into an intensive driving course before taking the test! ;)

Thanks everyone!!

springhaze--You should definitely look into it. I didn't do an intensive course, per se, but I know they do exist. I just found a driving instructor, and told him what I was trying to do. We set up a series of 2 hour driving lessons over 2 weeks with the provision that if he didn't think I was ready, I would move the test. You may be able to do it even quicker if you already drive manual. I did do a lot of practice outside of my lessons with my husband, going over the test routes and the maneuvers, and that was essential. Some days I was in the car for almost 5 hours (with breaks). But it's a great way to get it out of the way. I'm so excited to be able to focus on other things!
