Help! Need to find alternative (semi-urgent :) )
« on: December 14, 2002, 12:25:56 AM »
So, I am going to be making a few family recipes for a Christmas Eve dinner for me and Russ (part of our first Christmas together...*awww*  ;D).  One of the dishes is corn spoon bread.  And for this, I need cream style corn.

Now, does anyone know if this is the same thing as creamed corn?  And if it is, has anyone happened to see it in Sainsbury's, Tescos, et al?

Thank you very, very much - I need to get all the ingredients together soon, and if this one will need some added searching, the sooner I hop to it the better.  ;)

"Cream style" and "creamed" corn are the same thing.  And I'm pretty sure I've seen it at Sainsbury's.  Good luck!   :D

And now, of course, I'm going to ask for the recipe, because I've always wanted to try corn spoon bread!!  Please?!   :D

You can get genuine Green Giant creamed corn at Tesco's.

Honestly, they should pay me a spokesperson fee or something!

;D Here you are Peedal!  And yes, this is the *best* Cornspoon Bread recipe *ever* (could be slightly tainted as this is what I grew up with, so of course it's the best :P).  I've looked other recipes up using google, so there are some variations out there - but I've found this to the be the best thus far.  ;D

Cornspoon Bread
1 can cream style corn
1 can whole kernel corn
2 pkgs. Jiffy brand corn muffin mix
2 beaten eggs
2 cubes melted margarine
2 cups sour cream
1 tsp. salt
pepper to taste
1/2 lb. grated cheese - put on top for last 15 mins. of cooking

Mix all ingredients and pour into a greased 9 x 13 pan.  Bake at 350 degrees F/177 degrees C for 60 mins. and remember to put grated cheese on top after 45 mins. of cooking.

Tell us what you think of it!

Oohh, and Peedal - I forgot to note, this is a recipe that will feed a family of at least 6.  So if you have a smaller number, halve all the items, etc.

Also, where it says "1 can whole kernal corn", etc. that means one of the reg. 8 1/2 oz. sized, as opposed to the little 4 oz. and what not.  Ok...think I've covered everything.  Let me know if there are any other questions I've forgotten to clear up, though.  ;)

Christa -

Thanks!  I can't wait to try it.  I have exactly 2 boxes of Jiffy corn muffin mix left, so I'll probably give it a whirl sometime this week!!

Do you like Spam?  If so, I have a great Spam and cornbread recipe that my 14-year-old LOVES!   :D

You'll have to let me know how the cornspoon bread goes!  And about the Spam...well, not really, I'm afraid.  :-[  But thank you for the offer, anyway! :)
