I would vote for Trump for a bag of peanut M&Ms!   I think you can get all the flavours at M&M world, and possibly other places like Harrods.  £££££

I was at Taco Bell in Sheffield yesterday - no Mountain Dew.

Aww, thanks for checking.  I'll maybe get a bottle of the UK version to take with me when/if I get to go to a Taco Bell.  I can't not drink Dew when I have my tostada with a handful of taco sauce.  Oooh, or a taco supreme when the shell has softened just enough that I can bite into it without the whole thing falling apart.  Or a burrito supreme (no onions because allergies suck).  Om nom nom!  I need Taco Bell in my life!  *sigh*

Isn't Mountain Dew just available in the bottles?

The Mountain Dew made here is a slightly different formulation, due to EU regulation.  The taste is slightly off, even sweeter than the US version, which is already too-sweet-but-it-just-hits-the-spot-when-I'm-eating-Taco-Bell.  It's one of the few drinks where I want ice because it dilutes the syrupy sweetness of the drink.

The only reason I like it (and the food pairing, if you'll pardon me sounding ridiculously pretentious) is I worked at Taco Bell throughout undergrad, and we were allowed free soft drinks while we were working.  I don't like Pepsi or Dr. Pepper, so Mountain Dew was the least bad of the options.  I started out with just tiny 'water' cups of it with a bit of ice.  Then I was getting full-size drink cups, with ice and a lid and straw.  I knew I was in trouble the first day I bought Mountain Dew while not at work.  Eventually, my habit got really bad.  Like, bad bad.  But I was always exceptionally healthy at my checkups, and I could afford it, so I didn't care.

Was someone on this thread looking for fudge sauce?

I found a recipe that might be useful!

The usual. American girl meets British guy. They fall into like, then into love. Then there was the big decision. The American traveled across the pond to join the Brit. And life was never the same again.

I was, after someone else mentioned it!  That's a great find!  I only wish I'd had it yesterday when I was ordering groceries.  They've just arrived, and I didn't get cream.

Do we know if corn syrup is a thing that we can buy over here?

You know what,  I looked for it last year so I could make pecan pie. Never found it.

And I stood in front of the hot fudge containers at the grocery store and then put it back. I know I've seen it at M&S even though it is a little more expensive.

I thought I remembered searching for corn syrup before and being unsuccessful.  Hrm.

I just bought the UK equivalent of "magic shell" chocolate topping because it was the best I could do for ready-made.  It's not hot fudge sauce, though.  I'm going to have to make it, though!  I must have it!

My daughter is coming over in August. I'll have her bring me corn syrup  (if I can't find it) so I can make pecan pie this year.

I think the recipes I saw here used golden syrup. It doesn't taste the same.

Edit: I'll just order it from Amazon. That will be easier than having her bring it.

Ahh, Amazon... it's expensive, but sometimes I just have to have a thing, and I really appreciate that I can get much of it from Amazon.

Ohhh!  Oh oh!  Who's in the US now and due to come back soon?  Can I get someone to buy me some Talk o' Texas pickled okra?  Anybody?  Please take my moneys.  Please please!

It's only £15 for a pack of 3 dark Karo syrups. I only need it once a year and I don't have to inconvenience my teenage daughter with bringing it over.  Totally worth it.

I wanted to bring over proper Kosher dill pickles but the risk of packing glass bottles just isn't worth it.

I have ordered Vlasic kosher dill spears from Amazon on more than one occasion.  And Vlasic stackers.  And Vlasic kosher dill baby wholes.  South African Foods is a frequent destination for me.   :P

I'm currently on my flight back to Edinburgh and my suitcase is ridiculous.

I flew over to the US with a 5 kilo backpack. I'm flying back with a 20 kilo suitcase and a 9 kilo backpack full of food and meds.

After carrying this crap around for over 12 hours it makes me wonder if I really needed that Velveeta cheese block and canned cheese sauce.

Lol .... I plan on stashing quite a few boxes of Daiya's mac n cheese in my luggage when I move, along with the medicine cabinet. It will be worth it when you're having a bad day and craving mac n cheese. :D

Do you really need high fructose corn syrup?  Can't you just make a really concentrated sugar solution?
