If you want some nutty cheese, try Comte from France. It's got that nutty taste but it's way better than jarlsberg. The Norwegians can't make cheese.
jfkimberly--I've only had port wine cheese once back in 1990 so my memory isn't brilliant but isn't it just cheddar cheese with cream cheese and a touch of port that's rolled with nuts?...my MIL who used to be in the food trade in her first career. She said that she had "heard" that cheese balls were popular in the US but that she definitely never encountered it in her lifetime in England. She did add, "there's a first for everything I suppose". She suggested that it sounded like something you may find at Fortnum & Masons, Selfridges, Waitrose or M&S in the Christmas aisles.
