I am an American wife married to a Brit for almost 5 years.  The spouses and "partners" are never invited to my husband's Xmas parties at work either, but because I am not invited, he doesn't go.  That means the world to me!  From the very beginning, he said he wasn't going out without me and he doesn't.  We do everything together because that is what we wanted from the beginning.  No hassle, just love.

Wow.  I think I'd go mental if I never went out without Dan, and I know he feels the same.  We think it is good to have space and a degree of independence.  No hassle either.

I wish the corporate parties were all "spouses only" and I could stay home and do something else far more productive like play Xbox.

My work holiday party was so lame I would have never subjected my spouse to it!

Yeah, mine were deadly too.
And if you threw a party
Invited everyone you knew
You would see the biggest gift would be from me
And the card attached would say
"Thank you for being a friend!"

We didn't go to ours (though obviously DH and I work together, so we were both invited and had paid our part for bus fare for the group) but it was mainly because I fell down the stairs and bruised my tailbone so badly I could barely walk or sit!  ::)  I don't think we missed much except a few bruises from people falling down drunk, and I think I would rather not see my coworkers trashed, anyway!  :P

For my husband's Christmas party, he was allowed to bring me... but only if £10 was deducted from his paycheck...  just to pay for the drinks that are free for employers. I don't drink at all, but he still had to pay £10. I had drink vouchers that I had to pay for, even though I don't drink... so it was odd, and there was no way around it! I just gave them out to others.
