London Area Book Club, 19 September
« on: July 30, 2009, 10:07:29 PM »
The next London Book Club meeting will be 19 September, at 15:00.  The book we will  discuss is Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert.

Quote
An intensely articulate, sensible, moving and funny memoir of self-discovery, Eat, Pray, Love is about what can happen when you claim responsibility for your own contentment It is also about the adventures that can transpire when a woman stops trying to live in imitation of society's ideals This is a story certain to touch anyone who has ever woken up to the unrelenting need for change.

We will be meeting at Caffe Nero, located at 386 Chiswick High Road, Chiswick  W4 5TF.  It's near the Sainsburys, between Chiswick Park and Turnham Green tube stations, on the 267 and 237 bus routes.

We are a very fluid group, and welcome newcomers with open arms, so don't be afraid to join us.  You might meet your new best friend!

If there is interest, perhaps we can adjourn after the book club to nearby Wahaca for some great Mexican food and margaritas!

PS:  The October discussion will be Middlesex by Jeffery Eugenides.  The exact meeting date, time and place have yet to be decided.  Since this a pretty hefty read, we wanted everyone to have plenty of advance notice!

London and Greater London UK-Yank Facebook group.  Join if you live in or near London, plan to move to the area, or just visit.  It's on approval needed so there is a bit of privacy for our meet-ups.

The next one is not going to be in Chiswick.    :D  We are pulling together the details, but it looks like it will be Chelsea.

Even people not interested in the book club should join the London Group as we have done/will do non-book club related meetings.

You had me at margaritas!  :-)  Doesn't quite sound like a book hubby would enjoy though, sounds kind of "girly."  Is that a correct assessment?  It's hard enough to get him to read anything other than newspapers as it is, so I imagine he might pass on this one.  I'll be there though.

It is definitely a book with a feminine perspective.  Perhaps he might like to read this alternative.  It was written as a tongue-in-cheek response to the popularity of Eat, Pray, Love.   ;D

Would he like to join us for the margaritas after?  My husband will be coming along then.  In fact, if there is anyone out there who is not interested in joining the book discussion but would like to join us at Wahaca, don't be shy.  Just let us know either via post or PM, so we can look for you.

I have a feeling hubby will fall into the 'joining after' category, as he usually works 'til on 5 on Saturdays and isn't a huge novel reader anyway! (he likes his factual books on pet interests)  I won't partake in the margaritas, unfortunately, but will lovvvvve some yummy Mexican food!!

LA,

That's me requesting to join. :)
And if you threw a party
Invited everyone you knew
You would see the biggest gift would be from me
And the card attached would say
"Thank you for being a friend!"

Hi. I just requested to join as well (I don't know if it took...) I've lived in London for about 15 years, love books and can make it in October, if not September.

**Bumping the Thread!**   ;D

Both as a reminder and to grab the attention of any new UK-Y members in the London area who would like to join us for the book club, or the social time after!

Feel free to PM me with questions if you don't want to post them here.

FYI, this book is checked out of ALL my local (both near work & home!) libraries, so is proving hard to acquire at late notice (bad me, I know).  Think I will just bite the bullet and order Amazon and HOPE it comes in time for me to read! :)
