UK taxes in the USA
« on: July 25, 2004, 01:52:18 AM »
I'm not sure if this is a topic that has been breached, but here goes:

IF my Brit DH is living in the States with me, does he have to pay taxes to the UK as well, and if so, at what rate or after what level income?

IF I obtain dual citizenship and we are living in the USA, do I have to pay UK taxes as asked above?

Taxes are so confusing when you are dealing with one nation and one nationality...it seems to be getting worse the more wrenches I throw into the mix!!!

My Brit Hubby and I are moving back to America. So I recently asked this question. If I remember correctly, Helen told me that the British Government does NOT require British citizens (of any kind) to pay tax while they are living abroad. It doesnt matter if you make 2k or 200k. Nice huh? Wish the US were like that.  Have a search for UK taxes in USA in this forum to find Helen's answer to my question. It should help you out.*

* Actually here's the link to my post with Helens answer on the same topic.

Hi guys

UK (like most countries) taxes you based on residency and not citizenship (like the US). Therefore when you leave the UK, you will not be subject to UK tax provided you keep your tax home outside of the UK for one full UK tax year, and do not come back to the UK for 91 days on average over 4 years.

You start paying UK tax as soon as you return here to the UK to live and work.

Hope this helps.
