P.S. I ended up buying a little cooking pumpkin, cutting it into squares, boiling it to bits and then mashing it with a potato masher. The equivalent of canned pumpkin it is not.

None of the Waitrose stores around me carry pumpkin... Looks like I'll be making another sweet potato pie this year.
