Thanks Helena! I do have a bit of a tendency to say that ALOT. But then I read on another thread that lots of people in Britain apologise like crazy for anything and everything -- so may I put it down as evidence that I belong in the UK? ;)

This may sound silly, but I have to ask..Obviously I would have to acquire my US passport before I even apply for the UK one yes?

Last question I promise!

Hi Scott! Welcome to UKY!
Looks like things will work out well for you! I am married to a Brit and have just moved back to the states (Sacramento) from England. Have you always lived in Sacramento? What school did you go to? Look forward to seeing you around!

Hi Melissa,

And thanks!!

I havent always lived in Sacramento. My parents have lived here for about 15 years. I lived most of my days in Fresno ( no gigling please..LOL)..so I went to school there, Bullard High School and then CSU Fresno!!

Welcome back to Sacramento!

Im so excited about all the revelations Ive learned here already about my move to the UK!!...Now I just ned to get the ball rolling..my goal is to be there within the next 6 months if all the paperwork, documents and passports can be obtained and completed in that time!!

You do not need to apply for a US passport before getting your UK passport, but you might as well, because you will get it faster as you were born in the US.  Your UK passport will take longer to get as you need to register your birth because you are not British by decent as your mum is British and you were born before 1983, not your dad.

I owe you an apology Scootyes, because I totally forgot about that provision for the maternal line before 1983. I am really, really glad that Jemima got on it immediately and straightened it out. I got overexcited and forgot that crucial detail -- for some reason I thought that it came automatically from the mother before 1983. Sorry, Scootyes; thank-you, Jemima.  :-[
