I've used a Land O'Lakes butter cookie recipe before & it turned out really well for cutout, frosted cookies. It's not 'Briticised' but I think this is the one:

I might have used strong white flour instead of the plain flour, but I can't remember - been a couple years or more since I made them! I made sweet little Christmas trees, stars, bells - then I had a little lump of dough left over that became Mr Hankey, 'frosted' with nutella.  ;D

I can't compete with Mrs C (who can?)  ;)  but I did make some nice decorated biscuits a couple of years ago for the royal wedding (we had a brunch party). I used Miranda Gore Browne's recipe and they were perfect:

Also, the recipe is all in metric measurements so very easy to follow.
