Trying to apply online for the SET(M) - in person
« on: November 06, 2011, 06:16:56 PM »
So I went on tonight to apply for the SET(M) but all I can find is the section under APPLY ONLINE stating I need to download the form. I thought for an in-person application you filled it online and then booked a time and paid. I am wrong? The website seems to be leading me in circles

Going by that link you download the form complete it and bring it with you to your appointment.

"The application form

When you attend your appointment, you must have the correct application form with you, fully completed and with all the required documents. If you do not, your application may not be processed that day.

You can download the application form, and guidance on completing it, from the relevant sections of this website."

Someone who did theres mentioned you download the form, upload it, pay and then book an appointment. That link wants me to book the appointment first, where the APPLY ONLINE section only lets me download a non editable pdf

Set an appointment but it says its just for 1 person and anyone else will be turned away. It wouldnt let me pay an fees and the application tells me that my Husband needs to be there for the in-person but as I said the appointment says only I can be there.

Everything I read online tells me that I need to to pay online and upload a editable SETM form pdf but the site does not let me have one.

I am completely lost now.

You don't have to do the online form & upload it & pay online. It's never been a requirement, I know at one time it was an OPTION but never a REQUIREMENT. Since I've been out of the visa loop for a while, it seems that if the option is not there anymore then you just do it the old fashioned way:

Just make the appointment, print off the form, fill it in, have your pictures taken, gather your documentation & go to your appointment...pretty simple.

Your husband can attend with you and needs to go with you. The appointment is for the person applying for the visa. Since your husband isn't a visa applicant he doesn't have to have an appointment. Each visa applicant has to have their own appointment even if they're a member of the same family...does that make sense?

Thank you for the reply. Feel silly now but I never expected it to be such a "just book and show up" system. Not with the spousal visa being online. Thanks again

Glad you got this figured. I meant to come back but had to go to our going away party.

I can see why you were confused as hell, the site does mention in a few odd places that you can apply and pay online. But I'll be buggered if I could find it either.

Was interested as we will be doing this fairly soon too.

My husband was pretty annoyed that you couldn't use an editable PDF version for an in-person appointment - I mean, why not have a version that you can fill in on the computer and then print out, rather than making someone do it by hand?  (He has the handwriting of a ten-year-old boy who has been kept in at recess all week to practice his penmanship.  I ended up writing in the 'how did you meet?' segments, just so they were legible.)

Also, if you make an appointment by phone, they may get a bit snotty and inform you about the online version.  (And they told my husband that it was usual to make the appointment *after* the wedding.  Yeah, well, maybe if you didn't have to make an appointment four weeks in advance, we might have....)  He felt a bit pressured by the woman on the phone, but thankfully she seemed to just be reading off her script and went on to make the appointment.

FLR(M) successfully received at Govan yesterday.   ;D

congrats I know what you mean about the form they should make an uploadable pdf so you can type in it.  My son also has shocking handwriting though he successfully works in a bank go figure lol.  But yes not everyone has clear handwriting even though they hold down good jobs.

Maybe the UKBA should address this.

Love pads x ;D
