I personally wouldn't feel comfortable using a partner of a relative or in-law or any chain of relatives/partners that could lead back to me (like sister's boyfriend's brother-in-law or something like that.) Perhaps that's too cautious, but I'm of the opinion that with something as important as this, any ambiguity should be eliminated wherever possible.
