I'm so excited. This is the first time I've caught the show from the very beginning. I didn't really cotton on to it until last year, and now I love it! I'm looking forward to the later shows as I felt this one had to take so much time introducing so many people.

Has anyone ever made custard tarts before? They're not my favourite, so I probably wouldn't bother but they looked VERY difficult!

Late reply. I haven't been on UKY for a bit, but I was itching to give the custard tarts a try after that episode. This show always makes me want to cook.  I love a good egg custard, and I'd be curious what homemade ones would taste like in comparison to store ones. I'll have to look for a dairy free recipe though as I can't do dairy now with DD's milk intolerance. :(  They did say something though about making them without dairy, so I'm guessing it can be done.

I don't think I'd bother making a dairy-free custard tart, to be honest. Isn't dairy what they're all about?

I think it could work fine. It's the eggs that make the creamy yumminess. I think they said something about it being made initially without dairy.

I'm tired of not being able to eat my old treats because it will make my baby ill, so I'm experimenting a bit. I actually think this is one that could work well with an almond milk and cream substitute.

I made some last year and sadly this episode reminded my husband how much he enjoyed them.  Now he wants them again.   :P

I loved yesterday's episode! Sweet breads and buns are some of my very favourites - both to eat and to bake. I'm dying to try a my hand at an apricot couronne!

I like Glenn and Becca, but not feeling any love for Ruby.   In terms of who is the best baker I would say Kimberly or Christine.

I agree completely! I wouldn't mind Kimberly winning, even though I prefer Glenn and Becca, but I still haven't warmed to Christine.

I adore Glenn, and was so worried he would go this week!  Kimberly is my favourite, but I suspect Ruby might win.

Kimberly is definitely my favorite.  But I genuinely like most of them.  Ruby definitely has highs and lows.  I would prefer to see the win to someone more consistent though.

So I tried the dairy free custard tart. It was actually okay. It wasn't great at all, and I doubt I'll make it again as it wasn't quite what I'd hoped, but I've snacked on them all day. I used Paul's recipe from the website, but substituted the butter in the pastry and used a mix of almond milk and and oat cream substitute for the custard along with the seven egg yolks and sugar. So now I know it will work, but it's a keep it for home dessert, not a take it to the WI dessert. :-)

Oh, meant to add that Kimberly is my favourite too. Ruby was up there, but she's beginning to grate.
