Dad in hospital again
« on: October 12, 2013, 06:54:25 AM »
So we went to bed really early last night (8:30). I've been flaring all week with my RA and its really knocked me down with the fatigue and hubby just had an exhausting week at work so we decided to climb into bed and watch the football. Of course we were both snoring our heads off by 9  :)
Well, I guess the phone rang sometime after 9. Never good news when the phone rings after 9 pm. Turns out my Dad is back in the hospital. His blood oxygen levels are around 86 on pure oxygen and they can't get it to go up. Last time this happened we almost lost him. He's had some nasty lingering chest infection for about a month now...with some pretty strong antibiotics that just aren't doing enough, so I'm assuming (as I didn't get the call and I'm only going by my mom's message) that he's not doing great. Hopefully they have him on some iv antibiotics to fight it...and he can beat it. Stupid emphysema. Now, I'm sitting here at 7am waiting until its late enough that I can call my mom and find out what's going on...and which hospital he's at.
So stressed....could really use some good thoughts and prayers for my dad please?

I'm sending you and your dad my good thoughts, prayers, and healing energy.  I was in almost the same place as you this time last year when we found out my dad had cancer.  Not being able to talk to people because of the time difference just adds another element of stress to the mix.  Hugs.

Thanks guys...finally got to speak to mom,and he was doing better when she left the hospital just before 11pm last night. Bad chest infection so IV antibiotics to hopefully kill it.

I spoke to him in the hospital yesterday...he seemed in good spirits. His o2 level is around 88. My mom doesn't seem to think he'll come home, but she's a bit of a pessimist (which is where I tend to get it from), but she hasn't been able to speak to a doctor since Friday night with it being the weekend. He's in the best place for him...getting the antibiotics which will hopefully clear up the infection which will make it easier for him to breath and get oxygen which will in turn help make his heart not to work so hard.

Honestly if I ever ever think of picking up a cigarette again(quit when I got here last year), I hope someone hits me hard ...in the head to snap some sense back into me.

I'm glad to hear it sounds like he has stabilised.  :)

And yes, kbeech, I hope you succeed with your having kicked the habit for good this time!  :)

Glad to hear it's all looking better, kbeech!

My grandma was taken to the hospital on Sunday with gallbladder problems.  :(  Luckily, my youngest cousin lives with her and was there to take her to get checked out.  :)  I don't think it's terribly serious, but I can commiserate with you a bit, kbeech, on being away from family in important times.  :(
