Are you a member of Phi Beta Kappa? And do you live in the UK?
« on: January 29, 2014, 03:01:28 PM »
Although there are over 1,000 members of Phi Beta Kappa living in the UK, there is presently no alumni association. We are working towards forming one in the next year.

If you are a member of Phi Beta Kappa, you are welcome to join us in our LinkedIn group http://tinyurl.com/pbklondon or email phibetakappalondon@gmail.com.

A bit more on Phi Beta Kappa Associations

Associations are a way for Phi Beta Kappa members in a specific area to stay connected after they have graduated. Associations give members the opportunity to socialise, learn and enrich the communities of which they are a part. Hopefully, be it networking, socialising, learning, volunteering or simply giving, you will find a reason to join.

What’s involved right now?

Right now, we are simply getting all interested members together in a LinkedIn group: Phi Beta Kappa London Alumni Association Interest Group ( http://tinyurl.com/pbklondon ). If you are unable to join us on LinkedIn, please email me at phibetakappalondon@gmail.com, and I will look into some way to keep you in the loop.

We are looking to organise a preliminary social event in London in the next six months, so please do join soon.

If I don’t live in London (but am still in the UK)?

Please join the LinkedIn group anyway. It’s likely that the first association will be for Greater London, but at least you will be able to start networking with other members. If there are a sufficient number of members in other cities, we can create subgroups.

What commitment will I need to make down the line?

It’s up to you. An association needs a minimum of three officers and 25 active paying members (dues are typically no more than £30 annually). The members need to meet at least once as a body every year. Each association is self-funding and determines its own schedule of events, so the level of activity is really up to the members.

If you only have the time to join the LinkedIn group and participate intermittently, that is absolutely fine. If you, however, would like to put yourself forward for a leadership role, please let the group know.
