Bringing Daughter to Join Us
« on: April 14, 2014, 05:05:43 PM »
Hello.

I moved to the UK in 2011 with dependents when I married my British husband. We are waiting on ILR (which should happen later this month, looking at the timelines).

I left a teenager daughter with her biological father in America (she's 16 now). At the time, she wasn't ready for the move. Fast forward 2.5 years and she really misses us. She's had a hard time being separated.

She's going to visit this summer to spend some time with us. Does she *need* a visitor visa?

If she likes it here and wants to stay, what are our options? Can she apply to stay from within the UK? Does she apply as a dependent or on her own? Under which visa? What are the maintenance requirements with dependents? We were under the old rules. I assume she'll be under the new rules, so this is somewhat new for us.

Thank you in advanced!

Hi There!
I don't know much about this topic but I was reading up on US dependents and I did see that bringing them over before they turn 18 is the easiest way. If she wants to stay, I would say you need to get her dependent visa in before then.
Good luck and I'm sure someone with way more information will comment soon.

She doesn't need a visa to come for the summer, if you want her to move to the UK, she'll need to return to the US and apply from there as a dependent.
