Naturalisation Timeline (2014)
« on: May 10, 2014, 01:16:17 PM »
Hi everyone, I just wanted to share my timeline in case anyone is applying for naturalisation around now or in the near future.

18 March 2014: Applied via Nationality Checking Service
27 March 2014: Payment taken from account
29 March 2014: Letter of acknowledgement
10 May 2014: Received letter of approval, invitation to citizenship ceremony. Dated 19 April 2014.

So my total turnaround time, using the checking service, has been 7 weeks, which isn't too shabby considering the backlog at the end of last year! Hope this is helpful :)
10/12/08: Completed and submitted online application for UK spousal visa
10/14/08: Biometrics done (as a walk-in a day early)
10/15/08: Visa application package sent to courier overnight
10/16/08: Application received by courier and delivered to Chicago consulate
10/20/08: Called courier to ask about delays, told it was approved!!
10/21/08: Visa in hand.  Date issued 10/18/08
11/19/08: Flight to Leeds!
3/18/14: Checking service appointment for naturalisation
4/19/14: Naturalisation approved
5/15/14: Citizenship ceremony

30 April 2014: Letter from Home Office staying that application was approved, dated 28 April

Eeeeeeee!! :-D

Thanks! I had a look at the application over the weekend, so I wouldn't be caught off guard by anything - it seems surprisingly straight-forward! I haven't worked here in the UK, so no job history or NI number, squeaky-clean criminal record - am I missing something, or is it really that painless to complete??

Yeah, after the initial entry clearance visa, and ILR, citizenship is a walk in the park!

Apparently they used to ask for P60s, at least when I went to my NCS appointment the woman was insisting that I needed one for my application. For proof of address for the three years and that I'd been working and paying taxes, she said. "We said to bring it on the appointment letter."

"But that's what the passport stamps will show, that I've been in the UK... and they have my employer tax information, and what if I hadn't been working this whole time?"
"Well there would be benefits statements, then."
::internal facepalm:: "No, I've only been able to claim benefits for a year now, and I haven't anyway. Would you check, please, because I'm sure I didn't see P60s on the application guidance."

Comes back "okay, we used to ask for that but not anymore..."

Yikes!! :-P

I'm thinking it might take a few month but my family kept asking me about it and I read some people got it within a month or so, got me wondering.  I try emailing for update but it doesn't  say anything about my case.

I applied in January and I had to show a P60 (but thanks to DrSuperL, I knew to bring one).

Sorry. I'd meant to add on to this when I found the bits from the Guide. Got distracted by something shiny though....

On page 14 of the Guide, in respect of people applying on the basis of residence (emphasis on 'or' mine):

Quote
APPLICATIONS MADE ON THE BASIS OF RESIDENCE IN THE UNITED KINGDOM
Evidence of lawful residence during the 5 (or, if the applicant is married to or in civil
partnership to a British citizen, 3) years before the date of the application
• Your passports OR say why you are unable to provide one on page 15 and supply
• Letters from employers, educational establishments or other Government Departments indicating the applicant’s presence in the United Kingdom during the relevant period

Letters from employers etc (possibly to include P60s?) appears to only be needed if you cannot supply a passport. Additionally, the only mention of P60s in the Guide was in respect of applicants from Switzerland or the EEA (page 15).

I realise that they're not immigration experts however if they are offering this, they should make themselves aware of what is needed when. I'm here based on marriage, if you needed a P60 I am wondering if you arrived here on a different basis?
