Well I've gotten emotionally involved in the World Cup.

Does anyone have any guidance as we address the prospect of facing Germany?

Is that what we have? It's easy to remember...

You know, a while back I read that Clint Dempsey's favourite TV show was Swamp People. He's OK with me.

But I have been trying to recall some old high school chants, and can only come up with two:

Hit'em low,
Hit'em high,
Poke your finger in their eye.

and

Nuts and bolts,
Nuts and bolts,
We've been screwed.

My only interest in the World Cup is that fact that Clint Dempsey and I have the same alma mater. Ha. It's my singular claim to fame.

That's better than mine....Dr. J asked me to move my car so he could back out. He was nice about it.

Dr J: Excuse me, could you pull up so I can get out?
Me: Sure, sorry........wait......your'e Dr. J aren't you?
Dr J: I am. And I am late for an appointment.

Stay calm and carry on.

A tie will get them through, even a narrow defeat should do it, unless Portugal have a big win over Ghana. :D

See this is what I need. I like maths, and have a pretty good yeoman's grasp on probability, enough to keep me away from gambling, but there is complexity in this group stage thing.

The win/lose/draw bit is relatively simple. Four teams, three matches, three possible outcomes....adding the points thing in there ramps it up.

It is strange, sort of, to be hoping for a draw or a small loss.

Sometimes you just have to rely on a good defence  :)
