I am now officially done and dusted! Came home today to two envelopes--one with my naturalisation certificate and US passports being returned, and the second with my brand new red UK passport!  NOW it feels real!  (For what it's worth, I never received any text notifications about my passport application, either receipt or printing).

Date of Application: Thu 18/12 (NCS Hammersmith)
Date of receipt by UKBA: Fri 19/12
Date of debit of fees: Mon 29/12 (per online banking figures; cleared 30/12)
Date of receipt of acknowledgement: Mon 05/01 (dated 29/12)
Date of receipt of approval: Fri 30/1 (dated Wed 21/1)
Date of ceremony: Wed 11/2

Passport app submitted: Wed 11/2 (Check and Send)
Invite to interview letter: Wed 18/2 (dated 17/2)
Interview appointment: Fri 20/2
Receipt of return documents: Tue 24/2
Receipt of UK passport: Tue 24/2

NWfamily, I saw over on immigrationboards a few people mentioning similar occurrences, but the only time I think someone got a follow up letter specifically about the payment was when they requested it themself.  I'm sure it'll be okay!

I'm  in!  I got the notification yesterday that they had tried to deliver the Special Delivery envelope, so I had to spend the night worrying it was a rejection!  The letter is dated 21 February, and it technically arrived 24 February.  It's going to take all of my patience to wait for the letter from the council.  ;D

My timeline:
Application sent:  3 February
Application received: 4 February
Payment cleared: 12 February
Acknowledgement letter received:18 February (dated 11 February)
Approval received: 24 February (dated 21 February)

beatlescowgirl--that's great!  Congratulations!  It's a relief to know that I'm on my way, but I think the real excitement will hit when I have passport in hand.

Congrats Beatlescowgirl and Mungo!  My payment cleared today, so hopefully I hear something in the next few weeks!  :)

Mungo - Off topic, but what part of Tyneside?  Are you a member of our Northeast group?

Thanks Beatlescowgirl! Congrats to you!

Congrats Mungo! I am on a similar timeline as you, so I truly hope that means I get a letter soon too! There's absolutely no reason I can think of for rejection, but I have this irrational fear of a rejection letter. I will breath easy once it's all sorted.

Now sadly I'm extra worried since my payment and receipt were in early/mid November and I still haven't gotten my approval  :\\\'(

bfrenchfry- On what basis did you apply for citizenship?  Married to a UK citizen or resident for 5 years?

JessM  my family on my father's side is all English, I was the first born in the US so it was citizenship by descent not based on a tiered visa.  They acknowledged and deducted the payment back in November and I haven't heard a peep since  :\\\'(

I wonder if things have slowed down. I've heard nothing after payment was taken on the 18th (Feb).  :(

I received a letter last week (dated 25 Feb) that they received my application.  I haven't heard anything since.

I was thinking today that they'll probably be getting more applications because the fees are going up in April.  Annoying for those who expected a pretty quick turnaround, but I'm sure they'll start getting stuff through again soon.

I had my ceremony today!  Had afternoon tea afterwards, then registered to vote and I just filled out my passport application!  I can't believe it's finally done.  Best of luck to everyone still waiting!

Got my acceptance letter today!  ;D

Application Sent: 16 Feb 2015
Application Received: 17 Feb 2015
Payment taken: 25 Feb 2015
Acknowledgement letter received: 4 March 2015 (dated 25 Feb)
Approval letter received 14 March 2015 (dated 8 March)

I'll call Newcastle council on Monday and book my ceremony.  :)

Good luck to all those still waiting.  The checking service lady told me applications based on marriage tend to go through the fastest.  So if you applied based on something else, try not to get too worried yet (easier said than done, I know!).

Congrats JessM!

I've applied based on marriage too. There's no rhyme or reason to the application process. When I called on Friday, they told me mine was still processing. I've not had any complications... haven't even left the country! I thought it would be quite fast.
