US passport renewal/name change
« on: July 29, 2014, 01:54:14 PM »
Hey everyone! I just printed out my passport paperwork from the us embassy website and now I questions about the actual sending in the documents to the embassy.

So, my question is: do I HAVE to use DX to send it to the embassy? Or can I send it through Royal Mail?

Also, I'm pretty sure DX is the only way everything will be returned to me, how is that done exactly? As far as being charged for it, etc...

Quick replies would be great because I'm hoping to get this taken care of ASAP (:

Thanks in advance!

DX is HORRENDOUS. I had a three month drama with renewing my passport (I work 6 days a week during term time, they only give you an entire day, no morning/evening, they 'forgot' to pick up from me... the list goes on). You can use Royal Mail special delivery. I would put another special delivery envelope inside with your address, but that is me!

I'm just worried because the is embassy website specifically says to use DX

I'm not too worried about waiting or anything because I don't work, so I am home all day everyday ...
If that's the only issue with DX, should it be alright to use them?

The have 'forgotten' to pick up my documents. TWICE. Super aggravating as I had specifically arranged to wait at home all day. TWICE. If you don't mind a courier company that doesn't courier, go for it!

It does say DX only, but I had to send the embassy some info via special delivery and it was fine.

I used DX for my renewal back in March and it was fine, no problems.
