Would you recommend...

getting an immigration lawyer or immigration advisor to help with the visa process?

Was considering a lawyer. Hate to pay if we can manage on our own but will gladly fork over the funds if it seems beneficial?

Anyone use a service or a solicitor? If so and you recommend them, who did you use?

Why do you think you need a lawyer? Is there something about your situation that is unusual?

Personally, I don't think professional help is needed unless you have a complicated application - something like a significant criminal history, bad UK immigration record, and so on.  If you have a straightforward application, you could hire professional help if it will give you reassurance, but it really isn't necessary.  Some so-called professionals have been known to give seriously bad advice to applicants as well, so you would need to research reputable organizations and ensure they know their stuff.  Laura Devine is highly recommended; however, expect to pay a LOT.

Thanks. I think we are just going to go for it. It's nerve racking as I love my fiancé so much. I need to be with him. It's all very scary to stop working towards it and just take the plunge but I guess we could be scared for ages.
