I've been here for 14 years and still don't feel I really fit in, although I do have quite a few friends. On the other hand, when I go back to Texas, I also feel I don't fit in. It all goes with being an expat, I suppose. You just have to learn to roll with it.

This is exactly my experience!  I've lived here for 14 years and get asked every day where my accent is from.  That's fine but when I went home for Christmas the waitress said "I can tell your not from around here with that accent".    Nooooo, I was only born here

That's it for me, not going to fit in anywhere

We have a Midlands group on Facebook for local Americans, but that's like the Birmingham area. But we are more than up for a hang out if ya wanted to make the trek!! It's a group of women in their 20's - 30's, hahs

Ooh! I'll be in the Midlands not too far from Birmingham when I do get over so I'll try to get in touch once I'm settled and see if I can ever make it out to these events! :)
