Americans in the Midlands (Birmingham/Tamworth/Nottingham)
« on: January 05, 2015, 04:13:21 PM »
Hi everyone!

I have recently moved up to the Midlands from Surrey, and I would absolutely love to see if there are any local Americans around.  Even if someone could just point me in the direction of a church that's heavily laden with us Yankees, I'd be happy.

Seriously...I'm an island.

Hello!!  I am NOT biased! I just want to make friends, too  :)

Shripshire?  You mean Shropshire?  How far away is that from Birmingham/Tamworth?

I'll be in the West Midlands next month. In the Coventry/Birmingham area.

Hello to you, too!!  Are you moving to the area or just visiting?

Hello to you, too!!  Are you moving to the area or just visiting?

Sorry, yes, I am moving there, we (my two kids and I) arrive on 28 Feb to join my husband. In the middle of packing insanity and so forth now!

Although, I'm not sure I want to go to Birmingham as I hear it's only for Muslims (hahahahaha, this is total comedy, Fox News, please kill me).

The google tells me Tamworth is about 30 minutes from where we will be (Hampton-in-Arden) so that doesn't seem impossible? There must be someplace we can all meet?

I live just outside of Swadlincote, I see signs for Tamworth when we're driving around. It's about 30 minutes away as well. I'm always surprised that it takes 30 minutes to go 15 miles.
The usual. American girl meets British guy. They fall into like, then into love. Then there was the big decision. The American traveled across the pond to join the Brit. And life was never the same again.

Well, funnily enough there is an American diner in Swadlincote!  It is one of those metal/aluminum (spelled the correct way!) dining cars with a 50's theme - super cute!

It would be hilarious to have a group of Americans rock up to the joint... it's run by British people, ironically - lol.

Yeah, Tamworth is just off the M/A42, so it's directly connected to Birmingham and Nottingham (kinda sits snuggly between the two on the motorway!)

My husband and I have talked about swinging by it! I really miss a good american burger and real dill pickles! haha. I'm totally going to eat at wendy's way more than is normally acceptable when I go back to visit.

Definitely going to Chik-fil-A, Wendy's and having me some KFC macaroni and cheese... Oh and visiting my favourite Asian Fusion restaurant with the best Sesame Chicken EVER.

And hugging my dog.

I was just wishfully talking about pickles... We'll have to see if they have them or not! Hubby and I keep meaning to go. maybe this weekend? And I'll post if they have pickles!
