Relocating to the UK from the US
« on: February 27, 2015, 11:40:55 PM »
I live in the US, born and raised here, as were many
generations before me.

I am under 65 and I receive Social Security Disability
payments.

I do not have any minor children.

I am interested in relocating to the UK.  I do realize that
there are challenges in doing so.
I know I will miss my family, especially my grandchildren.

I have been reading through various threads. It doesn't seem as though
it will not be an easy task to relocate.

In one thread, I found this information:

"you need to be able to show evidence that you meet the requirements if they ask you for them:

- a return ticket (printed)
- your bank statements to show you have enough money for your trip
- ties to the US to show you will return, such as a job and a home"

From reading the above, apparently I would not be able to travel
to the UK and just stay? I have submitted an inquiry to the US Federal Government regarding my SSD payments.
I hope to have that income to support myself in the UK.
I also am searching housing options.

I do not have family there.
I am not a student.
I do not work.
I not going there with specific plans to marry a citizen there.

All this being said, is it at all possible for me to relocate there?

You're right. Unfortunately, you can't just up and move to the UK without family ties such as a spouse or dependent children, a job, or plans to study at an accredited university. It's just not possible otherwise. You absolutely can't just travel to the UK and stay. You'd need to apply for and receive a visa that allows you to live in the UK.

I hate these posts; they make me sad. They have tightened the rules and tightened the rules until there are so few options left. I am sorry, Dianna.

I have never given any thought to what the rules and laws
laws are when traveling/relocating/immigrating from one
country to another country.

I imagine it is pretty much the same for those who want to come to America.
Work/Student/fiancee visa.

I will continue to research possibilities.

Thank you for your input!
