We have arrived!!!
« on: April 23, 2015, 09:47:17 PM »
We left Boston on Monday night April 20th and we arrived safely at our son's house in Scotland on Tuesday afternoon.  Since then we have been to the bank and opened joint current account and joint saving account.  We had no issues at the bank and we were able to use invoice from Amazon.co.uk and our passports to prove our ID and address. Today we went and registered with the local health center and we got an appointment for a new patient medical with our new GP. so far so good.  We thought we would be asked for a National Insurance Number for my Spouse but nobody asked.  We still have to phone to get the National Insurance number set up.  We contacted the Social Security Benefits Unit at the US embassy in London to get our SSDI paid into our new account, they phoned us today to confirm our ID and to confirm the bank details.  My son had got us sim cards for our iPhones on the EE network and they work really well and so much cheeper than we were in the US for the same data plan and call minutes.  Now we just need to get over the jetlag..
