Visa approved!
« on: April 24, 2015, 12:40:26 PM »
Really happy today as I received my BRP and visa approval today!  :)

One question, though, for the FLR(M), there is no visa sticker in my passport like there was for my fiance visa.  Is the BRP considered as the visa?

Hey there!
Yes, the BRP card is your "visa" for FLR. If you notice it has all the same information on it as your visa sticker in your passport. You'll need to take it with you when you travel and your employer will use it as proof of your ability to live and work in the UK. Take good care of it, it's kind of expensive to replace if it is lost or stolen.
The usual. American girl meets British guy. They fall into like, then into love. Then there was the big decision. The American traveled across the pond to join the Brit. And life was never the same again.

You will get a BRP when you renew your FLR(M).  BRP's are only issued for visas issued inside the UK (at the moment).

Take good care of it, it's kind of expensive to replace if it is lost or stolen.

£40 if lost inside the UK.It's the fine and the removal of permission to stay that is the expensive part.

You must apply for a replacement biometric residence permit (BRP):

within 3 months if it was lost, stolen or damaged while you were in the UK
within 1 month if you’re returning to the UK on a ‘replacement BRP visa’

A replacement BRP costs £40.

You may be fined up to £1,000 and have your permission to stay removed if you don’t apply for a replacement in time.

Lost outside the UK gets more expensive as you need to apply for a replacement BRP visa to enter the UK and then apply for a new BRP within 1 month of entering the UK.

BRP's are only issued for visas issued inside the UK (at the moment).

I thought they had already started with outside the UK for some countries? There is a list somewhere that shows which countries and when.

Here it is. BRPs issued for outside the UK started on 18 March 2015. 32 countries citizens already need BRPs from outside the UK under Phase 1 and 2.
The US is on the Phase 3 list of countries starting 31 May 2015.
The rest of the world start on Phase 4 on 31 July 2015.
