A few questions on "family of a settled person’ visa "
« on: May 15, 2015, 02:20:56 AM »
A few questions about my wife's application.  I'm a UK/USC she's a USC and we're moving together to the UK this summer.

1) We've filled out the visa application online, but not submitted yet.
2) We've downloaded, printed and completed VAF4A appendix 2 financial requirement forms.
3) I've downloaded and completed Form SU07/12 sponsorship form.

The question is what to do next ?

- I know we have to submit and pay for the visa application online
- we also have to pay the health surcharge online
- there is a biometric appointment at some stage.
- we have to mail everything to the UK

But I'm not sure what order these come in ?  Do I pay the health surcharge before or after applying for the visa and attending biometrics ?

Thanks in advance

You don't need to do the SU07 form. It doesn't apply to you.

Thanks - do you know if I need to pay for my healthcare surcharge before I mail the visa application ?

Yes, before you submit it online.

Thanks - health surcharge paid.   Now to submit the visa application online and chase up supporting documentation.

Id recommend waiting until you have all supporting documents in hand before submitting.   :)

Mailing to Sheffield (and return)

While completing the forms on Visa4UK it mentioned buying prepaid airbills from VFS global, but a quick look at VFS global's web site makes this appear to be very expensive.

http://www.vfsglobal.co.uk/usa/user_pay_services.html

So what are the alternatives ?  I have read of people setting up a FedEx or UPS account and having the Sheffield office just access that account.

Is there a preference for FedEx or UPS ?

I assume we open a FedEx account, we can use that account to send our documentation to the UK, and then insert an envelope and waybill for the return with our account number on it ?

FedEx cannot be used as UKVI in Sheffield no longer accept/return by FedEx, so your options are VFS Global (who use UPS for a flat fee), UPS or DHL.

I would expect to pay $100-200 each way for  overnight shipping depending on size/weight.

If you use UPS or DHL you either create a waybill for the return or just include your online account number so they can charge your account.

Again, many thanks.   This sort of information should be clearly stated on the UK government website.

This is how I feel about every single step in the process. The website is appalling, in my opinion.
