Tier 2 (general - PBS)
« on: May 22, 2015, 09:21:32 AM »
Hi,

I am coming up to three years on my Tier 2 general under the point-based-system (visa expires Sept 30, 2015; 3-yr visa started 30 Sept 2012). I didn't start my job until January of 2013 (moved here in Dec 28 2012). If I apply for another 3-year visa, does it matter that my visa started quite a bit before I started work? Also, it says that a Tier 2 can have five years as from the sponsor date. As I'm renew, do I have a new sponsor date with the new visa or does it count from the original? Lastly, would this then jeopardize my ability to get indefinite leave to remain in December 2017/January 2018, which was my plan as it would be five years since I've lived here?

You'll be fine.  You can be on Tier 2 General for up to 6 years.  So you'll renew for another 3 years (which will be from the September date), then you can apply for ILR once you've been in the UK for 5 years.
