Got approval for spouse visa 2 years and half!!
« on: July 28, 2015, 03:20:40 AM »
Hello guys,

Just recently received my visa last Friday with the vignette "sticker" in my passport super excited for getting the visa after a very long wait!!! Flight is booked for next week and I am wondering what should I expect to happen when I arrive in the UK? My visa states no public founds what is that means? No healthcare?
Would I have to bring my passport everywhere to use as proof of ID???
Would appreciate any info... Thanks

Congratulations :).

'No public funds' means you can't claim UK government benefits. Healthcare is not considered a public fund.

It's wouldn't be very good if you couldn't use healthcare, since you just paid the £600 NHS levy in order to be allowed to use it!

To see what is considered public funds and what isn't see here:
 https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/public-funds--2/public-funds

When you arrive in the UK, have your passport open to the visa page and hand it to immigration. They may ask you some questions about your reason for coming, where your partner is and your visa to make sure you got it through legal channels, and then stamp you in.

You are not required to carry ID in the UK.  You will need it to open a bank account, etc.  You may want to apply for a provisional license as an alternative ID and keep your passport somewhere safe.

Congratulations! I was in the process of getting my visa last year at this same time. We did the extra money to have it expedited and my turn around was 4 weeks. A few days later I had the visa and my suitcase was already packed. Upon arrival into the UK, when I got to immigration I just gave them my passport. I was asked the why? and was my fiancé there to meet me. Once I was at the desk, it was less than 30 seconds and I was going to the baggage claim area. Then through the door and my fiancé was waiting for me. We were married in December 2014. Best thing I ever did and still loving the UK. I still haven't had the homesickness everyone mentions (most say within about 6 months of being here). I Skype my family every week and stay connected through FB. I post everything I do in pictures as everyone back home loves it and will think you are living the high life. Sometimes you are, but then you get into a routine and will be popping into the post office and shops like everyone else. Grocery delivery service......do it.  Don't be afraid to drive either. It is not that difficult.  Enjoy the experience. Not everyone gets to do this or even understand the desire and difficulties involved just to be with the one you love. Welcome to the UK when you all get here!

Thank you guys!! Finally here in the UK just about 3 months. I finally got my iPhone unlock and was able to be added and second line to my hubby contract. It's so hard to get anything without  proper ID or credit. I am blessed to be here and just getting to adapt to the change so far so good. Now looking for a job hope to find something
