Financial requirements
« on: November 26, 2015, 08:47:01 AM »
I'm feeling discouraged as my partner doesn't meet the sponsor financial requirement for me and my son to move over there. And he/we definitely do not have the savings to compensate.
Question: can we combine incomes? I work remotely so my income will stay with me.

Reading through some of the horror stories is making me feel like it's going to be impossible to be with him. Any encouragement would be greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately for the first visa you cannot use any of your income because you don't yet have permission to work in the UK.

Once you are living in the UK you can combine income for the next visas in the future, but not for the first visa to move to the UK.

Yes, it explicitly states in the visa requirements that the applicant's income can only be used if they have permission to work in the UK before they apply for the visa, i.e. They have a work or a student visa for the UK.

Thanks for the replies. I guessed as much but was crossing my fingers.

How do folks do it if their partner isn't making enough?

We did it long ago before the financial requirement kicked in.

As for your situation, how far off is your partner from meeting the financial requirements?  Is a part time job a possibility?  Or could your partner do it with the savings route?  I believe you can contribute to that, as can others such as your partner's parents, and it must be gifted and in savings for 6 months before your application.

It is much easier to qualify for a visa to move to the U.S.  Would he consider moving to be with you and your child?

Unfortunately if a partner doesn't make enough, there are no options for settling in the UK.  It's a very harsh anti-immigration climate at the moment and unlikely to get better.
