Texas shopping list
« on: March 08, 2016, 12:23:45 PM »
In September, I'm travelling to Texas to visit my parents... it's been 4 years since the last time, so I guess I'm due...  :-\\\\

Just for fun, let's plan my shopping list for stuff to bring back with me...

First thoughts:

Neosporin
Hidden Valley Ranch powder... in bulk!  ;)

My parents are coming at the end of the month and I have them bringing about four boxes of ranch powder and twizzlers, I'm not a big sweet person but I love red licorice! I wish they could bring me some dill pickles but that would be a nasty suit case if they broke.

Plus some ibuprofen and makeup that I can't find here.

Acetaminophen, ibuprofen, naproxen, antihistamines in the largest possible size containers, plus vitamins if you take those.

That spray that eases mosquito bites - can't remember what its called but I haven't found it in the UK, and its the only thing that stops me itching bites into great big weals!

Edited to correct spelling.

I personally look like a drug mule when I come back to the UK.  It's not that I don't find the drugs here effective, I just like to buy in bulk once a decade and be done.  So I hit Costco for Advil, Excedrin (for my husband), Benadryl, and Nyquil.

I do like Benadryl cream for bug bites when traveling.  Also chewable Pepto (used to be able to get that here but can't find it anymore).

If you find one and have room, I'll pay you for it and obviously shipping when you get back

They don't sell Hidden Valley Ranch over here, but they do have Newman's Own Ranch and it's actually really nice! Then again, I don't love hidden valley because I find it really milky...
The usual. American girl meets British guy. They fall into like, then into love. Then there was the big decision. The American traveled across the pond to join the Brit. And life was never the same again.

Now, I know (hope!) this is an exaggeration, but as a scientist who assigns expiry dates to medicinal drug products, keep in mind that these products have expiry dates for a reason.  I suggest checking the expiration date when you buy in bulk, and (depending on the product) consider buying once every three years, rather than every ten... :)

I'd bring back:
Crystal Lite
Peppermint Patties
Moonpies
Dutch egg noodles
Rice Chex
Jiffy cornbread mix
cream soda
Cheetos

(and because I'm from Philly, and knowing it is completely impractical: cheesesteaks, hoagies and soft pretzels, oh and some wonton soup :D)

We brought back some pecans from our last trip home.  Worth their weight in gold.

I'm not a big sweet person but I love red licorice!

You may have already tried this, but shops like Poundstretcher, Home Bargains, B&M have soft Australian licorice in apple, blackcurrant and strawberry for like 99p.  You might like the strawberry one?
