American food at my Tesco
« on: March 21, 2016, 10:11:01 AM »

Last time I was at Tesco I snapped some pics of the American food section.  I'll post these here in case anyone else gets a kick out of it

Notice the hole in the grits shelf!  That's me obsessively collecting.

How about those weird no name copies of captain crunch, apple jacks and lucky charms?

Hate old el Paso. And, you can get the chocolates/pop tarts/Twinkies cheaper in B&B and home bargains :)

Aren't the salsa jars "cute" here?  I did find organic salsa (Kirkland brand) at Costco though....along with a proper large bag of tortilla chips. Organic if you're lucky.  You just need to figure out how to store the salsa in the fridge. Looking forward to making my own soon.

What's wrong with Old El Paso?  Of course the squeezy bottles of "sour cream" and "Guacamole" are a crime against humanity, but there's no other taco shell than OEP

There are tons if other taco shells in America, Ortega for example. I could OEP horrible. The taco seasoning was gross....I actually had to remember old el no no do I didn't but their orifices when they were on sale.

Guacamole and salsa is always homemade in our house. And a shame sour cream hasn't caught on here.

Speaking of orifices, steer clear of Santa Maria beans....

Can't argue with that!

Sounds like we agree on home made guacamole nevertheless.  Not sure what you mean by sour cream not catching on.  Tesco sells tons of sour cream, and cream fraiche that seems to be roughly the same thing.  Am I missing something??

I agree. The sour cream isn't quite right here. It's always too thin and doesn't quite taste the same. I think that of pretty much all dairy products though. Especially yogurt.

Oh, but the butter is so much better! I love it.
The usual. American girl meets British guy. They fall into like, then into love. Then there was the big decision. The American traveled across the pond to join the Brit. And life was never the same again.
