I miss that too. I just pack the butter into my tablespoons when I need it. It works okay, cause it needs to hit room temperature anyway!

I just found a grams to tbsp conversion for butter and weigh it.

Random cooking fact: You use Crisco/solid vegetable shortening in place of all or part of the butter in a cookie recipe so they don't spread as much and it helps them stay more chewy.

I am not a good baker. But I used to be able to make a pretty decent....sometimes almost granny-level, southern biscuit.

Without Crisco....I am lost....they come out puck-like.

Love the whole shelf of Twinkies... just goes to show that everyone still thinks that we eat those things. My partner's Gran bough a box of them for when we go over for a brew...we had to break the news to her that not all Americans like twinkles. lol

Yeah, I agree and haven't eaten a Twinkie since 1980.

Notice the whole shelf of pop tarts, which is not the same category at all.

There's also magic shell which is good, Hershey syrup which is awesome, and Reese's peanut crunch berries.  The latter is covered with some kind of waxy lard.

Most of the baking recipes I use are American ones. I found this great butter converter site: http://www.traditionaloven.com/conversions_of_measures/butter_converter.html

I just convert then weigh out in grams or ounces on my scale.

Hershey syrup which is awesome

I have chugged a can of that stuff. Had forgotten all about it.

Confession time: I've left a bottle of Hershey's in the fridge and chugged it surreptitiously for weeks.  The kids think it's only for ice cream.   Surprise, when we get some ice cream, the bottle is empty

That surely must be a violation of at least seven conventions on international law and human rights.

Does it not bother anyone that in comparison to the other ethnic sections at Tesco, ours is entirely junk food?!  ;D

Mmm, not really. If you think about what, what is uniquely American?

BBQ sauce
US biscuits
Ranch dressing, thousand island
Popcorn
Various snack foods
Various fast food restaurants

Most other things we've borrowed and made our own from other cultures. I just wish it was better options! Haha. Bisquick would be nice!

Just imagine what would be in a British section.
Biscuits
Cadbury's
Marmite
Haribo
Various chocolate bars
Monster mix (maybe?)

Pretty much the same things since cheeses and Yorkshire puddings wouldn't work.
The usual. American girl meets British guy. They fall into like, then into love. Then there was the big decision. The American traveled across the pond to join the Brit. And life was never the same again.

We took some pics of the American section in Tesco only to be told off and threatened with being thrown out for doing so.

Huh, that's weird.

I take random pictures of things all the time at the grocery stores where I am.

Sorry they were rude.
