No Shortage of Root Beer Yet
« on: April 20, 2016, 03:00:05 PM »
I still see this on the shelf at Tesco:

A while back I was reading that it was banned for having nasty additives.

I think our point before was that you can't get A&W, Barq's or any of the major US brands over here anymore due to the sodium benzoate levels being too high.

If anyone tries that one and can tell me it doesn't taste like rootbeer candies I would gladly give it a try.

I've tried it and it seemed fine to me, but I'm starting to learn from this forum that I'm not as picky as others.  No offence intended !

Shouldn't it taste like root beer candy?  Or shouldn't the candy taste like this?

I have to agree about the root beer candies - they're a bit overpowering!

Anybody introduce root beer to their UK mates? I made root beer floats for a "culture carnival" at my university once and it did NOT go down well. People wanted to try the root beer first on its own. I got a lot of comments of how it tasted like mouthwash.

I'm British and I can't stand root beer (though my mum loves it) - to me, it just tastes like Deep Heat muscle rub... gross :P.

I think I can safely say that if a food tastes like a US candy version of it, it's not right! Well, unless we're talking about Jelly Belly jelly beans. They're legit for a lot of flavours. (Juicy pear is the best!)

But does any 'cherry' candy actually taste like cherries? haha. Or strawberry or grape?

And yeah, I can admit I'm picky. I can taste the difference between ketchup brands and bottled waters. So something tasting right is really important for me.

I'm with you. I have never liked the stuff. Or Dr Pepper.

Has anybody tried Dandelion and Burdock?   Christ on a bike!   It tastes like eating soapy bubble gum while on acid.

San Francisco? VW van? Summer of love perhaps?

I have to agree. It's disgusting! That and clear cream soda.
