Feeling low, like this will never end
« on: May 04, 2016, 08:44:08 PM »
I know what I'm about to say is silly, but I'm going to say it anyway.

I am waiting for my citizenship to be approved (it will be three weeks tomorrow that I submitted my biometrics). I am already tired of waiting. Every day I'm looking for the mail man. I feel like I've been waiting for the past 5 years. (My FLR (M) alone took 10.5 months.) I am worried that there will be some *bleep*-up and I won't be approved, or I'll be waiting until long after the summer. I read somewhere that a lot of people are applying for residency, just in case the UK leaves the EU.  I don't know what department processes what applications, but it made me feel even more down, thinking that once again, my application will be delayed due to forces outside my control.

I'm just having a pity-party for myself tonight. I just want all of this to be OVER, once and for all. I'll be 49 next month for Pete's sake. LOL

She couldn't help thinking that there was a little more to life, somewhere else.
After all it was a great big world, with lots of places to run to.
And if she had to die trying she had one little promise she was gonna keep.

In no way does that strike me as silly!

So far my dealings with British immigration have had me veering from feelings of paranoia to elation, causing me to question my sanity several times over.  It has been all I can to to convince myself and my husband that, "they aren't out to get us personally", it just feels that way.   ::)

As for the age thing, I just turned 60 and am on my first FLR-M.  It hurts a bit to think how old I'll be when I'm eligible for citizenship, but then I remind myself I'll be that age then no matter what I do.  ;)

Soooo, if you're silly, I think we probably all are.... and a hearty congratulations on applying for your citizenship!   ;D

I'm really sorry that you're feeling so blue Fallgal.

You are so, so, so close to the end now though. Hang in there.

"they aren't out to get us personally

Actually, I think they are out to get us.
I just hope that more people will ignore the fatalism of the argument that we are beyond repair. We are not beyond repair. We are never beyond repair. - AOC

Hang in there, Fallgal.

It's a tough wait, but once it's over and done with, it'll just be a blip on your screen and you'll be British!

It won't be the EU citizens and their families holding up the BC team. Just before the government announced they were bringing forward the EU referendum date by 18 months, they brought in more rules for EU citizens and their familes who want British citizenship. For those on ILR (UK immigration rules) and wanting BC, this was good news.

However, for the revised Good Character rules, the BC team are now required to check back over at least the last 10 years history for every applicant.

Thank you everyone, for your comments. I'm feeling a bit better today (probably because it's a lovely day).

Not that bad. Those revised rules came in in December 2014 and the UKVI checking past history is only catching out those who used deception with previous visa applications.

The main plus for you is that the new law that came in from November for EEA citizens and their families. This has passed a lot of the checking on their applications (and training updates on the ever changing UK free movement rules) from the BC team over to a specialised EU team.

You are not being silly in the slightest! Even though it's likely all fine, it's exciting and scary at the same time so it's natural you will want to hear back ASAP or think something is wrong if other people have faster results even if that's no the case. Best of luck!! Hope it all comes back for you soon! xx :D
