(As a Brit, I'm horrified and saddened by the result)

Any changes will take a long time to implement, as we'll probably be renegotiating...everything...with the EU for the next several years, so I wouldn't expect any rapid changes to the process or requirements.

I don't think it will affect those of us coming in right now. Things may change in the next few years but I think what we're used to will probably stay the same.

The visa costs will still go up in April, the rules will probably stay the same as the UK is still an anti-immigration as ever.

I'd love to be proven wrong. I just haven't ever seen a fee go down once it's been raised...

A lot of uncertainty....but this is truth.

Basically no one knows exactly what is going to happen.

However my guess is that in the future visa applicants from the EU will have to follow the same procedures we have to. But again, who knows?!

Dare I ask? I know the fees just went up in March...but they're going up again in April?

They go up every year. Usually in April to coincide with the tax year but this year they were early.

Ah, didn't know that.

No one does the first time they apply, unless they've scoured the internet a ridiculous amount. For your first application you've got tunnel vision about what do I need right now. I know I did. :)

Isn't it loverly?

And for a couple of years they even went up in both November AND April.

Since I joined the forum in Jan 2007, the cost of visas has skyrocketed, increasing every single year.

Spousal visa fee in Jan 2007 = £260
Spousal visa fee in June 2016 = £1,795

Work or student visa fee in Jan 2007 = £85
Tier 2 General visa fee in June 2016 = £575
Tier 4 visa fee in June 2016 = £328

FLR(M) visa fee in Jan 2007 = £335 (or £500 in person)
FLR(M) visa fee in June 2016 = £1,311 (or £1,811 in person)

ILR visa fee in Jan 2007 = £335 (or £500 in person)
ILR visa fee in June 2016 = £1,875 (or £2,375 in person)

Naturalisation fee in Jan 2007= £200
Naturalisation fee in June 2016 = £1,236

Total cost from spousal visa to naturalisation (2 years on a spousal visa, 1 year on ILR, then citizenship) in Jan 2007 (by post) = £795

Total cost from spousal visa to naturalisation (2.5 years on a spousal visa, 2.5 years on FLR(M), then ILR, then citizenship) in June 2016 (by post) = £6,217

When I arrived in 2001 to go to uni it cost a grand total of £0. Showed up at the immigration desk thingy at the airport, showed them my acceptance letter and some American bank statements with money in and they stamped my passport until October 2005. Times have certainly changed.
Sept 2001 - June 2006: studied at the University of Glasgow and the University of Strathclyde
Aug 2010 - Dec 2010: in UK on holiday visa
Jan 2011: issued fiancée visa
July 2011: issued FLR(M)
March 2012: DD1
June 2013: issued ILR
November 2013: DD2
