It's beginning to look a lot like...Christmas?
« on: August 18, 2016, 05:35:04 PM »
I know some people may have read that and groaned...sorry about that!

I was just reading how a big department store in Ireland opened it's Christmas shop TODAY.

Yes...TODAY! The 18th of August!

Now I love Christmas, but this is far too soon for me. Does anyone feel like Christmas stuff comes out earlier and earlier here? At least in America we have Thanksgiving to kind of stop it going overboard before it's time!

And if your town is anything like mine, why not just let it be Christmas all year long and never bother taking down the Christmas lights? -_-

I do think that's Halloween and Thanksgiving give a good buffer to Christmas in the US.  August is DEFINITELY too early!

The thing is, stores wouldn't put the Christmas stuff out so early unless there was profit in it. That means some people buy mince pies and tinsel in August. My questions are: Who are these people, and CAN THEY BE STOPPED?!?!?

Seriously, who are they? Everyone always complains about this, but the shops aren't going to stock mince pies with an October expiration date unless they can count on selling them before October.

Do you think they buy them early and freeze them? Or do people actually like mince pies that much?
The usual. American girl meets British guy. They fall into like, then into love. Then there was the big decision. The American traveled across the pond to join the Brit. And life was never the same again.

This was a department store and the story had pics of mainly decoration, trees, stocking, tinsel, the whole shebang. But yes normally I see mince pies on sale usually in October.

Manchester has just announced a city wide Halloween celebration, including stores having their windows decorated, so I'm hoping that helps keep Christmas out of the windows until November!

Someone recently posted its only 129 days til Christmas on Facebook. I thought this was way to early to talk about xmas. My English hubby said that he doesn't mind as he likes xmas. We haven't even finished summer yet !

I'm not sure we ever started summer where I am  ???

I'm going to blame the council, who kept Christmas lights up all year long, as well as a couple hours down the street and a pub. I don't get it :-P

The one thing I really dislike about Christmas here is the music.  The same few songs, repeated endlessly.  Worst of all is that horrible Slade song that essentially tells us it's Christmas over and over and over...

YES!!  I miss the classics!

And speaking of classics, I would do anything for them to show Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer over here!
