What are people up to on the weekend?
« on: August 19, 2016, 10:51:58 AM »
I'm helping my daughter put together this robot:

Meccano G15 Toy

Last weekend we went to the Bristol Balloon festival and watched 75 hot air balloons take off at the same time.  I seriously want a balloon now.

That robot is really neat! Let know how you get on!

I'm off to the Burnley v Liverpool game tomorrow (Go Liverpool!)

The build is going to be a challenge as she's getting to be a real teenager, which involves a lot of yelling.

Enjoy your game.

Oh dear - I am sure she will already have it in her mind the "right" way to do it too...so good luck!!

And thanks! It is my first game in two years, and first ever away game!

I'm meant to be painting the bathroom today, but I'm struggling to find any enthusiasm for it.  My OH has gone to a meeting in Glasgow, and will be bringing home a KILO of lamb karahi, so we'll be feasting on that tonight!

The wind blew my wheelie bin over so I spent the last half our chasing cereal boxes down the street.
I just hope that more people will ignore the fatalism of the argument that we are beyond repair. We are not beyond repair. We are never beyond repair. - AOC

Oh man, that's always fun! Was it a particularly windy day today?
The usual. American girl meets British guy. They fall into like, then into love. Then there was the big decision. The American traveled across the pond to join the Brit. And life was never the same again.

The kids are off to a proper summer camp this weekend (PGL) so I'm going to Anglesey.  Anyone been there?  Any nice places to see?  Places to walk and bike ride?

LOTS of walks to be had on Anglesey!

And you're on the beautiful Welsh coast, where there is plenty to see and do. If you're into castles, I suggest Caenarfon. It's not at Anglesey but not far once you get over the bridge.

I've not stayed on Anglesey but if you have some time, watch this: http://www.itv.com/presscentre/ep1week7/best-walks-view-julia-bradbury

She seems to always go to a great place to eat, and ends the walk with a drink!

Thanks, I'll be sure to watch.

Logistics have changed , we can't go all the way to Anglesey any more.  We've booked a hotel in Cardigan.

We did something fun, geeky and completely British last weekend- we ended up at a meeting of model steam tractor enthusiasts.

I didn't take these pics, just found them on the web, but it's what I'm talking about.  There were about 20 guys like this, all riding these tiny steam tractors around.

For anyone near the south coast, I'd recommend a visit to the Hollycoombe steam collection in Liphook.  They've got a collection of steam powered fairground rides that you can ride all day for the price of admission.  Best to go on a sunny day.

Very much up myself and husband's street and we've done loads of stuff like this!! (But we got married - the ceremony! -on a steam train so you can see just how geeky we are......)

My weekends are filled with gigging (I play trombone and sing) with one of my many bands I play in,  working in my garden and allotment, homebrewing beer and wine, mountain biking and generally geeking out on things like that above as well.

I've never gotten food on my underpants!

I bet that beer is nice.  I'm going to my local brewery to get some beer for a party next weekend.

I've tried their beer in bottles but I'm looking forward to some fresh brewed beer for research
