Sugar alternatives
« on: November 29, 2016, 08:49:18 PM »
I don't care for a whole load of sugary things. I appreciate a piece of pie and ice cream here and there but I definitely wouldn't say I'm a sugar addict. However I do like sugar in my tea and coffee. At a small attempt to cut back where I can and get a tiny jump start to a healthier 2017 (for real this time haha), can anyone recommend a good sugar substitute and where to get it? I know aspartame isn't good for you so wanting to know what else was available on UK shelves! Thanks!

Honey or Agave nectar?

Meanwhile, when I die.  I would like my coffin to be filled with sugar.   ;D

Haha! My downfall is savoury stuff...chips, crisps...anything like that. Cutting back on that too (but in January, for real, because I have my birthday and Christmas coming up and it just wouldn't be fair :-D)

I use honey sometimes in my tea but wouldn't put it in my coffee. Is the nectar ok for that? Im not terrible with my drinks either...just one sugar for me! But can always do better and have none at all!

I use xylitol... it tastes very similar to sugar (not chemical-y) and it's natural.

Just don't feed anything with Xylitol in it to your dog, it's poisonous to them!
The usual. American girl meets British guy. They fall into like, then into love. Then there was the big decision. The American traveled across the pond to join the Brit. And life was never the same again.

Along those lines, don't overheat a non stick pan near your bird or it can easily kill them.

And definitely don't give your rabbit chocolate.

*raised eyebrow* we're actually talking about Xylitol and a lot of people don't know that its bad for dogs. If you used it in your tea and gave some to your dog on a regular basis that would be bad. My whippet is a dog who drinks tea.

It's a sweetener in some peanut butters as well here in the UK.

And rabbits aren't supposed to have xylitol either. Just learned that.

I haven't got any pets and my husband probably wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole (he loves his two sugars in his coffee), so I can sure you it will be just me consuming it :-D

Is it any better than Stevia?

As long as it hasn't been cut with ricin (Breaking Bad reference, sorry, getting way too OT here)
