I applied from within the U.K. for Permission to Remain with my spouse. The site said it would take 12 weeks for decision. We have now passed the 12 weeks and I've heard nothing.
Is there a longer wait time now? I have my reference number but there seems no way to check on the progress of my application.
We've been married for 25 years, she is a British citizen, I'm an American, so shouldn't be a tough decision. Provided the biometrics, fee, and paid the NHS fee at time of mailing.
I received the reference number regarding my application on the 1st of Jan. this year.
Anyone know how I can check on progress? I'd like to go to Belgium to see a friend who's ill but of course have no travel documents.

Thanks to any/all for any info.

What visa were you on when you applied?  Just checking that you weren't trying to switch from a tourist/visitor visa.

Most decisions are 7-8 weeks but there is the rare decision that can slip longer.  We had a member who unfortunately ended up being about 19 or 20 weeks this past autumn, so it does happen where someone falls through the cracks a bit.

I wasn't really on a Visa per se. I just bought a return ticket when my wife and I came to U.K. She decided she wanted to stay here and live next to her sister...voila, that's why I'm still here.

Thanks for your interest!

Tony

Yeah, I figured that out reading your other posts.  Unfortunately your visa will be refused (which is why it's taking longer).  You'll want to contact UKVI and request your documents back (which unfortunately they may make you collect at the airport, at your gate, to ensure you leave the country).  You MUST apply for entry clearance from the USA.  You cannot change your status in country.

Return to the US, reapply.  Do priority if you can swing it.  You'll lose your current application fee but will receive the NHS fee back.  (£1,195 for the visa, £600 for NHS, £450 for priority).  Currently priority is taking 4-5 weeks but processing times are going to start getting lengthy as we approach the summer.  The sooner you can apply correctly, the sooner you can be back and here legally.

And unfortunately this means that your FLR(M) application will definitely be refused because you cannot apply for it if you entered the UK without a visa. It also explains why it has taken longer than 12 weeks.

You MUST return to your home country and apply for a spousal visa - you cannot apply from within the UK.

And you need to pay the NHS.

Visitor visas and short-term visas

You don’t have to pay the healthcare surcharge if you’re applying from outside the UK for a visitor visa or any visa that lasts 6 months or less.

You don’t need to use the healthcare surcharge service or get an IHS reference number for your visa application. Instead, you’ll have to pay for any healthcare you get through the NHS at the point you use it.

Yes, you'll need to go back to the NHS places that treated you and insist on getting a bill and paying it.

I think they just like to tease me.  No decision email, I replied to their email for the courier label on the 3/29...maybe they are punishing me for my mistakes  :\\\'( fingers crossed for tomorrow.  I just hope to hear before my next car payment is due so I can save that, waiting around is getting costly.
